liquid amber vineyard
Liquid Amber Vineyard is a small backyard vineyard at the base of Sonoma Mountain. 114-year-old Alicante Bouschet vines are all that is left of a once vast field blend planted in 1910. Vines are dry-farmed and thrive on water from a deep underground aquifer.

alicante bouschet
Alicante Bouschet is a teinturier grape. Most red grapes have clear flesh, but Alicante is red all the way through. This made it a popular varietal during Prohibition because it could be pressed multiple times to produce fermentable juice. Unfortunately, this practice resulted in low-quality wines that gave Alicante a poor reputation. But when these grapes are treated right, they can create a notable wine that stands on its own and speaks to California’s history.
